One Mission. Many Doors.

There is something I've learned throughout my career that has never failed me.

Before you can lead well, you have to listen well.

Over these first few weeks as Executive Director, I've spent my time doing exactly that. Listening to staff members who have dedicated years to this organization. Listening to volunteers who generously give their time. Listening to board members, community partners, donors, and people who simply walked through our doors looking for connection.

I've heard stories filled with joy, resilience, pride, and possibility. I've also heard stories that remind me how important places like Diversity Richmond truly are.

One thing has become abundantly clear.

Many people know one part of Diversity Richmond.

Some know us because they've discovered an incredible treasure at Diversity Thrift.

Others know us because they celebrate with us every September through Virginia Pride.

Some have experienced the beauty and creativity of the Iridian Gallery. Others have attended a recovery meeting, a support group, a community program, rented our event space, or partnered with us to serve our community.

Each experience is unique.

Each one matters.

But together, they tell a much bigger story.

Diversity Richmond is the hub of the LGBTQ+ community in Greater Richmond, connecting people, partners, and programs every single day.

I like to think of it this way:

One mission. Many doors.

No matter which door first welcomed you, every path leads to the same purpose: creating a community where people are seen, valued, connected, and able to thrive.

That is the organization I have the privilege of leading.

As I begin this journey with you, my commitment is simple. I will lead with curiosity before certainty. I will listen before assuming. I will honor the remarkable legacy that brought us here while working alongside this community to imagine what comes next.

Because the future of Diversity Richmond will never be built by one Executive Director.

It will be built by all of us.
